There used to be a mill here , which was fed by the water of the Picherotte . A fountain/waterfall has been built at this place. Since 1990, the water has been reused via a closed circuit.
In 1896 the names of about 170 more or less famous foreigners who , from the 16th to 20th centuries, came to Spa to "drink the water" with the date of their visit. Among the first names of these 16th century "Bobelins" are Montaigne and Guichardin; the surnames are those of Leopold III and Queen Astrid, as well as Poincaré.
This stone-engraved frame is the architectural counterpart of the famous "Livre d'Or" by Antoine Fontaine from 1852, which can be admired in Pouhon Pierre-le-Grand. In it, the Spadic painter has depicted 94 famous visitors next to or below the statues of Pliny the Elder and Saint Remacle.
Behind the fountain stands the neoclassical building of the Hotel de Spa, which was rebuilt in the 19th century after the fire that devastated the center of Spa.
