The Roannay is a tributary of the Amel. It rises on the plateau of the High Pans near Francorchamps. The valley quickly takes the form of a heavily forested and sparsely populated valley . Then the valley takes on a sort of pastoral aspect and there are more meadows interspersed with wooded areas. Beautiful views caress the eyes of many hikers.
The Roannay passes through the villages of Ruy and Moulin du Ruy before completing its 11km run on the right bank of the Amel to Roanne-Coo between the Coo waterfall and the village of La Gleize.
The state nature reserve "Les prairieshumides du Roannay" is located just before the estuary.
There are a number of watermills along the Roannay.
West of Francorchamps you can follow the Roannay over several wooden bridges to Ruy. There is no road from Ruy to Moulin du Ruy, but there is a paved road some distance away. From the Moulin du Ruy there is a beautiful valley with a road near Roannay.
