This lock is officially called Lock 4 Dinant.
The lock is 100 meters long and 12 meters wide , like almost all locks on the Upper Meuse.
The dam is electromechanical with an upstream buoyancy of 90.97 meters2. It consists of four openings.
In 2017 the lock was completely overhauled and the doors were expanded for three weeks.
The locks between the French border and Namur are serviced every five years . Shipping is suspended during this time and mooring is also prohibited.
Specifically, the nine dams of the upper Meuse (Hastière, Waulsort, Anseremme, Dinant, Houx, Hun, Rivière, Tailfer and La Plante) will be opened one after the other, starting at La Plante. Then the level of the Meuse drops by 10 centimeters per hour.
At the end of this operation , which lasts about 36 hours , the Meuse flows its natural course and maintenance work can start for three weeks . A team from the Department of Nature and Forests of the Walloon administration rescues the fish caught by the receding water .
The maintenance work will be carried out at the beginning of autumn because the flow of the Meuse is at its lowest at this time.
Today (2021) between eight and ten ships sail this part of the Meuse every day .
In Dinant you can take several cruises on the Meuse between the locks of Anseremme and this one.
The Meuse is a river that rises in France and flows into the North Sea in the Netherlands through Belgium. It has a length of 950 km.
