In 1574 the parish of Spa was founded.
In 1885 a new church building was built to the design of the architect Eugène Charpentier, on the remains of earlier churches . The inauguration of this new church took place in 1886.
The neo-Romanesque church building is built in Rhine-Romanesque style. It consists of a double tower front on the south side of the church, a church nave in basilical elevation, a massive crossing tower on a tambour, a transept terminating on both sides in an apse and a choir terminating in an apse.
Remaclus or Remakel (Aquitaine, c. 600 - Stavelot, c. 673) was a cleric, monastic founder.
Around 647 Remaclus moved to the Ardennes, where he founded the abbey of Stavelot in 648.
The two towers of the double tower front on the square each have an octagonal spire between four gable ends. The transept has a turret at both ends on the side, four in total.
