This memorial is located at the Rocher Bayard.
Maurice Defoin is a talented motorcycle pilot, co-founder of the Union Motor Dinant, Liberal councilor in Dinant (1926-1927) and worked as a timber merchant. On October 2, 1927, he was accidentally killed in Profondeville while riding his motorcycle to Brussels to participate in the final round of the Gillet National Rally.
In addition to the creation of the Grand Prix Maurice Defoin, the UMD committee inaugurated a granite memorial stone at the Rocher Bayard on April 21, 1928.
Medallion designer Alexandre Daoust designed a medallion in the effigy of the rally driver to adorn one side of the memorial. At the bottom of the inscription by Maurice Defoin is a rectangular bronze plate that allegorically represents Death mowing down the unfortunate driver with the crashed engine on the left.
