Following the success of the Congolese section during the Expo of 1897, Leopold II planned to build on the site a museum-castle dedicated to the Congo. It was completed in 1910 on the plans of the Parisian architect, Charles Girault, author of the Petit Palais de Paris, to which it closely resembles. Recently renovated and modernized and called Africa Museum, the museum has a collection of African masks that is worth seeing.
