Description

The chapel of Our Lady of the Biest is also called the Fever Chapel because, even today, people come there to pray for a cure of fever. Maps show that there was already a chapel on that site before 1567. For three centuries, the chapel had a history of decay, (re)construction and destruction. The present chapel was built in 1893 and is probably the fourth on this site. On the south-east side of the chapel is a monument in memory of an RAF crew: On 7 November 1942, Boston Z2157 of 107 Squadron ended up over the airfield of Wevelgem during a raid on Kortrijk. A quick reaction from the Flak guns positioned around the base proved fatal for the Boston.

The monument is made of Himalayan Blue granite and it is shaped like the tail piece of a Boston bomber.
