In 1922 it was decided to set up a new flying school in Wevelgem between the Kortrijk-Ypres railway and the Kortrijk-Menen state railway. The barracks were built on the south side of the state road. The flight school was commanded by Corps Commander Captain-Commander Joseph Daumerie. The barracks were composed of ten separate buildings and had a total area of 5 ha 21 a. Today, you can still find some of these buildings at the entrance of the Vlamingstraat, at the rear of the Kortrijk business centre.
