This farm on the Ouden Heirweg in Anzegem is part of the Hemsrode castle site.
Dating from 1642, the name comes from "l'auberge", a stopping point for travelers on horseback between Kortrijk and Oudenaarde.
Hemsrode:
During the 10th century, probably around 900, fathers of the Ghent Saint Peter's Abbey settled here. It was then still a swampy area and it was called Ansoldingehem there. Their intention was to provide the inhabitants with healthy fish. Fish also eat mosquitoes and their larvae, so the risk of malaria was slightly less. To this day, those ponds can still be seen near the castle.
