In the 18th century the building was inhabited by a blacksmith (French: 'marichal'): the "maison du marichau". It has been classified as a Walloon heritage since 1977. Today it stands empty and is falling more and more into disrepair. However, it is a real witness of the Ardennes past: with a base of schist rubble, half-timbered walls first filled with loam and now with stone, it is today unique in the region of Vresse-sur-Semois.
The building had been owned by the municipality since the early 2000s, but they did not have the money to restore it and it had no purpose for it... It became more and more dilapidated (see second photo).
In 2016, a buyer is found who initially carries out the necessary repairs to the roof and then further repairs the house.
