Anticlinal Durbuy

Natural and strange wonder, the rock "Homalius", better known as 'the falize rock', has an inverted "U" shape and is called anticline .

For more than 300 million years , the rocky outcrop has been the highest point in the town. The rock itself is 35m high. At the bottom there is a lake that dates back to the time when the Ourthe still followed its old bed through what is now the place des Foires .

Durbuy is located in Belgian Luxembourg, in the heart of the Ardennes in Belgium on the Ourthe. Its round shape reveals that the river once flowed completely around it under the old bridge, the place des foires and via the anticline to the current bed of the Ourthe. Durbuy was originally an island, well protected by the water, the castle and the city wall that was 550 meters long and more than 6 meters high.
