Mural of the Smurfs Rochefort

This unique fresco is located on the facade of the building at rue du Tunnel, 1A in Rochefort.

The Smurfs mural is the world's first Smurfs mural and was created for FIRR, the "Festival du Rire".

A "Smurfs memorial" in Rochefort is an idea that has been in the works for some time. Those blue boys had already made a place for themselves in the city... Smurf hunts, Smurfs laying tiles in the streets,...
But why the Smurfs in Rochefort?

Nine Culliford, Peyo's wife and godmother of Carrefour BD (the flagship event that takes place in the streets of the city on Ascension Day) left us in 2016. Nine never missed this party, he enthusiastically attended every year; A long-term friendship had developed between this great lady and the FIRR. The FIRR was looking for a way to honor them and it was Véronique, Nine's daughter, who was quick to propose this beautiful gift as a tribute to her mother and the Smurfs.
Did you also know that the Smurfs celebrated their 60th birthday in 2018! So it was the perfect opportunity!

All the steps taken to bring this project to fruition were not an easy task. Finding the right place, obtaining the necessary permits, coordinating the smooth development of the plan, ... But always with the benevolent eye of Studio IMPS and Peyo's children: Véronique and Thierry.
ASBL URBANA, specialist in murals, was commissioned to carry out the work and subsidies from the Commissariat Général au Tourisme, the City of Rochefort and Wallonia made it possible.

The inauguration of the fresco took place on November 22, 2018.
