Weweler is a picturesque village, located at a steep altitude in the Our valley below the 480 m high Ourberg. At the foot of the hill, the Ulf flows into the Our.. Weweler was first mentioned in 1313 as Wewilre. But local researchers assume that the area that the village was already inhabited in Roman times. During the ancient régile, the village belonged to the lordship of Thommen. For a long time it was the central parish for a number of villages including Burg-Reuland. In 1803, however, the seat of the central parish was moved to Reuland, so that the local parish church was demoted to a chapel and was only used occasionally. The cemetery, on the other hand, retained that fnction until today.
In the Middle Ages, significantly more people lived in Weweler than today. The war and plague years of the 17th century marked a turning point. Those who did not die at that time emigrated, so that according to the archives of Pastor Mathäus Breitfeld, Weweler had only two inhabited houses left in 1672 with a total of 14 inhabitants. Today, the hilltop core consists of some older farmhouses and modern houses.
At the church you have a beautiful view of the valleys of the Our and the Ulf.
