Doctor Cochez was a front doctor during the First World War and later a general practitioner in Denderleeuw, where he also founded a local branch of the Red Cross. In 1944, the doctor became seriously ill after visiting a train car with prisoners of war in the station of Denderleeuw. The train passengers turned out to be infected with typhoid fever. Dr. Cochez also became infected. He eventually died from the effects of the disease, which he had contracted while helping the needy in the train car.
