De Vrede (formerly Gildenhuis) was already there before the First World War. The "De Groote Zaal" was also located there, the room of the Catholic Party of Denderleeuw. The hall was then named Vrede St.-Amand. That must have been around 1933-34. The Peace Hall was almost the cultural center for all those who were religious. A side building also housed the office of the Ziekenkas (CM).
In this typical café you can still soak up the real atmosphere of an authentic guildhall. It seems as if time has stood still here. The décor and small details exude the atmosphere of yesteryear. Curiosities were brought together and restored from all over the country. The many hours of work have paid off, because the result is impressive.
