A document from 1222 already mentions a church in Kleine-Brogel. In this document it was stated that the church had to pay an annual amount of silver to the Abbey of Sint-Truiden. In the 15th century a new, Gothic church was built with a marlstone tower. In 1646, after decades of turbidity, the nave was in poor condition and may have been restored in 1663.
At the beginning of the 20th century they wanted to build a new church, for which Vincent Lenerz and Hyacinth Martens eventually supplied the design. The tower would be preserved, but was raised. In 1907 the old church was demolished. The new neo-Gothic church was completed in June 1908 and consecrated in September. This church was built in marl from the Sibber quarry.
In the sacristy are paintings from the 16th century, Christ and Our Lady, attributed to Otto van Veen. In the church there are many statues from the early 16th century, such as Saint Barbara, Saint Catherine of Alexandria, both attributed to Jan van Steffesweert and dating from around 1520. A statue of the late 16th century Saint Odilia. There are also statues from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.
The oldest bell is from 1445, cast by Jan Zeelstman. It comes from Westerhoven and was purchased in the 19th century.
