This is an example of a gate to a cage in the POW camp.
From February 1945 to September 1946, Vloethemveld was a Prisonars Of War (POW) or POW camp.
The tight parallel structure of the railways, the existing sheds for the storage of ammunition and the wooden barracks made this location extremely suitable for the reception of prisoners.
Due to the huge influx of prisoners (the daily capacity was 62,000 and this was a 'transit camp') it was necessary to keep the camp workable. The camp was divided into 4 sub-camps (nrs 2226, 2227, 2229 and 2375) and each sub-camp consisted of various 'cages'.
