In 1525 the Old Alderman's House was built for the administration of the Ambacht Maldegem. The tasks increased and in 1653 the Alderman's House was reinforced by the Old Town Hall. Over the centuries, the buildings have had various functions: alderman's house with council chamber, inn, café, town hall, drawing academy, library, ... Meeting is always the common thread. Both buildings are protected monuments.
