The Veemarkt was first mentioned in 1293 when the Sint -Juliinusgasthuis was built.
In the first half of the 13th century , the square we now know as Veemarkt was apparently used as a rubbish dump . This can be explained by the fact that the square was still outside the old town centre. There was probably some kind of tollbooth or sentry post as well. There was also a fountain that was demolished in 1672. The fountain was later replaced by a pump topped with a statue of Neptune in the early 18th century.
Sint-Romboutscollege and Sint-Pieters-en-Pauluskerk are located in the Veemarkt. The place was rebuilt in 2005. It was only incorporated in the second half of the 13th century with the construction of the new city wall (1264-1268).
A listed Rococo town house can be seen at house numbers 14-16.
