Sinte Mettetuin - Mechelen

The garden was inaugurated on June 5, 2016 . It used to be a fragmented rest place in the historic center of Mechelen.

The design of the new garden was developed as a "hidden place" in the city. The heart of the garden is a parcours that forces visitors to experience the garden. The various entrances are therefore not directly connected to each other, but all lead to this tour via slightly curved access shafts. A winding path also branches off the route, enhancing the experience of the garden .

The design is based on the atmosphere of a romantic garden , with lush vegetation, views, perspectives and hidden places . To achieve this, the garden has a zigzag planting pattern that is the opposite of the path system. The planting consists of a combination of bee and butterfly loving native shrubs , borders , hedges and grasses. Lawns make the garden informally accessible, hedges give structure and perennials.
