The first Mechelen market was organized on this triangular square.
It was originally a general market, but later mainly grain was traded . At that time the square was also called Graanmarkt .
The Korenmarkt is considered the site of the first settlement in Mechelen and the starting point of the city.
The Korenmarkt was completely renovated in 2011 and is a very nice place. The square was even nominated for the “Public Space Award” in 2013.
When the weather is nice, you can relax on one of the many terraces . Or you can enjoy the informal atmosphere of this square from the stairs. At the Korenmarkt you will find a beautiful bell foundry that is definitely worth a visit.
The attraction is undoubtedly the chip shop on the square.
