This building from the end of the 17th century has been preserved together with some other fortifications from Vauban's time.
In addition to the nine defensive towers that flanked the corners of the walls, the famous military architect had planned an entrance gate and a niche at this place called "La Poulie". This provided a passageway to enter the city for the people living downstream .
Also the horses of the cavalry barracks could come to La Semois to drink along this road. At the beginning of the 20th century, when the Semois was still being crossed by boats , the small dilapidated building was called the “ Schifferhaus ”. He lived there with his family. Later, in the 1950s, the caretaker of the municipal slaughterhouse , housed in the "Bastion de Bourgogne", lived in the "Poulie". Now the building is to be classified and renovated.
