This walk starts at the church of Houwaart. Via a narrow footpath we arrive at a large open field. In the distance we see a Hageland hill in the landscape, this is the Houwaartsberg. We walk on and after 1 km we pass a chapel called Chapel St. Joseph under the lime trees. Afterwards we pass the flanks of the Houwaartsberg. The first vineyards appear on these flanks. Between kilometers 1 and 2 of the walk you have a very typical Hageland environment. After walking 2 km, we exchange the vineyards for a hollow road that leads us to the top of the Houwaartsberg over a distance of 350 meters. When we get to the top, there is a panoramic moment. On top of the mountain you have a view of the entire region. On top you will come across some vineyards. Then we start descending along some forest roads and a cobblestone section. When we are 4.5 km away, we go back to the Houwaartsberg, albeit on a different side. At 5 km on the counter we go back up and down the hill. Via some field roads we go to the busiest point of the hike. Just before we have 6 km in our legs we have to cross the Rijksweg (N223). Once we cross the road, we enter the castle grounds of Horst. We enter the forest that lies behind the Castle of Horst. We walk through this forest and after 7 km we take a field road along the Winge, a tributary of the Demer. Via some field roads and quiet paved roads we go back to the center of Houwaart. When we have 9 km we come back to the open meadows behind the church. Via this field road we go back to the church of Houwaart, where our walk ends.
