Eglise Saint Etienne - Durbuy

This church is located near the Chateau Petite Somme.

It is dedicated to Saint Etienne.

Petite-Somme has had its own church since at least the early 16th century . At the behest of the then sovereign, this chapel was separated from the parish of Grandhan in 1620 and raised to an independent parish.

Saint Stephen (Saint-Etienne in French) is the first martyr of Christianity. Stephen "did great wonders and signs among men." Once he was called to a meeting because he would go "against the temple and the law." After his answer he was stoned to death. Saul, who later became Paul, received the clothes of those who stoned Stephen and consented to his execution.
