It all started on August 20, 1914 in Briscol, a small town in Erezée.
Sixteen people from the village were captured by the Germans. In the next few days they will be subjected to a real test. In unbearable heat and in chains, they had to reach Heure on foot. A horrific journey made even more painful by the psychological torture and the lack of food and water.
After passing through Erezée, Soy, Hotton, Noiseux and Baillonvile , they finally reached Heure . There, a war council decided to irrevocably punish four of the sixteen prisoners. Leaning against the fence post of a village field, the four martyrs were shot . The others returned home safe and sound, but devastated by the horror.
Access to the monument is private . A memorial service is held around August 21 each year.
