The former track bed is the ideal route for hikers and cyclists.
This green axis connects Ostend with Torhout . At 22 km , this old railway is the longest of all green axes . From the coast, it successively crosses the medieval polders, the historical polders , the sand ridge of Gistel, Moere-Nieuwland, the plain around Eernegem and the Wijnendale plateau. Not only the landscape, but also the flora offers a great variety.
Much of the railway infrastructure has been preserved along the route: Moere station, the station pit at Eernegem , the excavations and bridges at Wijnendale, the railway's raised beds over the creeks at Ostend...
The Groene 62 is car-free and an ideal route for cycling and walking.
