The cable car of Spa connects the lower town with the hill 'Annette et Lubin' where the thermal baths are located.
Spa became particularly popular as a spa town in the late 19th and early 20th centuries . A funicular was built to connect the city center with the new state-of-the-art thermal baths on the "Annette and Lubin" hill. Work started in 2002 and was completed in 2004.
The funicular is fully automated - from the purchase of the ticket to the operation of the cabins - and equipped with landing doors. It connects the Royal Square of Spa with the thermal center a hundred meters higher on the hill of Annette and Lubin.
It is called a "funicular", but it functions more like an elevator , as the two cabins are independent and have no counterbalance. One of the cabins and the associated track is reserved for the guests of the Blu Radisson hotel , which sponsored the construction of the cable car. The other is open to the public for a fee of 1.50 euros (2020) for a one-way ticket.
The trip takes about 2 minutes and the view from the top is amazing. The cable car ends in the thermal center itself.
