On the afternoon of December 19 , a German patrol left La Gleize.
Made up of 4 armored vehicles , it took the road to Borgoumont, but turned back after the hamlet of Cour after the first cannon shot fired by battery D of the 110th AAA (anti-aircraft artillery battalion) commanded by Captain Reiver. This battery, which had been stationed in Creppe since the 3rd week of October 1944 to protect the headquarters of the 1st American Army in Spa, was moving during the day of December 18 from Andrimont to a place called le Rosier to evacuated Géronstère petrol depot .
This was the extreme point of the German offensive towards the spa.
The Touring Club of Belgium inaugurated a memorial monument on May 8, 1949, located on the edge of the Spa – La Gleize road, between the Géronstère source and the Thier des Rexhons ski slope, right in front of the road coming from Creppe. However, it was incorrectly placed there. The Germans never arrived there in December 1944.
On September 8, 2012, another stela was inaugurated, presented by Mr. Gérard Grégoire, one of the founders of the "December 44" Museum in La Gleize; this new stele was placed by the works department of the municipality of Stoumont exactly on the spot where on the afternoon of December 19, 1944 the above-mentioned German patrol turned.
