This is the third scene of the works of Joseph Gillain, known as Jijé , on the avenue to the Chapel of Our Lady of Haurt.
It shows the loss of the divine Child in the Temple.
These sorrows ( also called 'the seven woes' in older and Flemish literature) probably go back to the Matins responsories, where they were first presented as a seven. Matins are part of the Church's official prayer , the so-called Office; Matins are prayed at night.
