Description

During World War II, the school hid young Jewish students . That is why Father Jean-Marie Decorte, director from 1941 to 1946, was posthumously awarded the title of “Righteous among the Nations” in 1999

In December 1944 the German Von Rundsted Offensive started. The students are sent back to their homes. In the afternoon of the 23rd, the German troops reached the village. From December 23, 1944 to January 9, 1945, Bure was in a combat zone and the population of the village took refuge in the basements of the school , which at times could hold up to 600 people . The building was hit by about thirty shells .
