Eglise Saint-Maximin - Gesves

In the high Middle Ages ( before the 11th century) there was already a chapel here. From its origins until the end of the 17th century, a crypt was located under the choir.

In 1707 a new church was consecrated and in 1845 the construction of the current church started in neoclassical style. The building has 8 very large stained glass windows .

The church has three bells : Saint Jean (2.31 T), Saint Maximin (1.60 T) and Marie du Perpétuel succours (1.17 T).

The baptismal font dates from the 17th century. There are 2 side altars with paintings of Saint John the Evangelist and the Assumption of the Virgin (around 1700). There are 4 large confessionals and 1 pulpit from 1862.

The organ in the Saint-Maximin church in Gesves was made by the famous French organ builder Aristide Cavaillé-Coll, without doubt the greatest master organ builder of the 19th century. The instrument was delivered in 1871 .
