This plaque measuring 1 meter by 70 centimeters was inaugurated in 1921 in memory of the tragedy of August 21, 1914.
Then, under the eyes of the inhabitants of Andenne , 3 people were sentenced to death here as an example. They were shot but miraculously one of them survived the execution.
Frustrated that the advance to the fortresses of Namur was delayed by the Belgian troops blowing up the bridge over the Meuse , the German troops took unreasonable revenge against the inhabitants of Seilles and Andenne. Under the guise that snipers had fired on the German soldiers, some 800 men, women and children were herded together on the Place des Tilleuls on 20 and 21 August. About 200 men were randomly selected from the group. They were taken to the Quai Pastor on the Maas and shot by the dozen.
