The church of Haltinne seems to be all alone among the fields , with only two houses in the vicinity. Nothing suggests that this was a densely populated hamlet in the 16th century .
Due to state reorganizations and military passages, it became what it is today in the 18th century.
In 2010 and 2017, the area between the walled castle hill and the parish church of Saint-Martin was investigated by archaeologists . The first human settlement in Haltinne was in the form of a stilt house in Merovingian times. From the twelfth century, a real castle with outbuildings seemed to have stood here, surrounded by wooden houses.
What is special about the discoveries is that children and students from the age of 10 have helped with this as an education.
