Pastor Arnauts (1921 - 1946) believed that he needed to provide extra protection for his parishioners who lived far from the church. Therefore, he commissioned Jef Proost (cabinet maker) to create a chapel of Our Lady. The local residents suggested hanging the chapel on an oak tree so that they could gather at the tree in the month of May to pray there.
