Animal memorial site

As an animal-friendly municipality, Denderleeuw attaches great importance to the welfare of live animals and has an eye for the grief of losing a pet. A pet is part of your daily life. Losing it can be a very painful experience that triggers intense emotions. The death of a pet also has to be processed. The closer the bond with the animal, the more difficult it can be to process. That is why an animal memorial site has been set up in the garden of 't Kasteeltje (along the path to the Rozenlaan). There, people can come and remember their beloved pet in an oasis of greenery and tranquility when they need it.

At the memorial site is a sculpture made by artist Jan Clement. Owners of deceased pets can commemorate their animal by attaching an engraved nameplate of the animal to the panel next to the statue. To maintain uniformity, these nameplates are available from the Environment Department at a democratic price.

In the vicinity of the memorial site, a dog walking area has also been set up with some play elements where dogs can enjoy themselves to their heart's content in a protected environment.
