The Royal Lodge is one of the last witnesses of the racecourse. It was built in 1924 at the request of Albert I in the Beaux-Arts style, unusual in the nature that has reclaimed its rights around it. The racecourse had its own train station. Very useful, because at the end of the First World War, the site was used as a place to defuse shells and other unexploded ordnance from all over Belgium. In 1940, the Germans set up a large, well-camouflaged ammunition depot there.
