The Mosan Gothic style church was built in several phases from 1311 to 1536.
Five cult buildings have been located at this location since the 4th century . Of the fourth Romanesque church built around 1066 by Theoduin of Bavaria, a crypt still stands today, accessible via the right side nave of the collegiate church.
The foundation stone of the fifth church, the current collegiate church, was laid on March 15, 1311 by Prince-Bishop Thibaut de Bar. The choir was dedicated to Notre-Dame in 1377 and all the work was completed in 1536. The spire that formerly crowned the west tower was destroyed in 1803 by a fire caused by lightning; it will not be rebuilt. The collegiate church underwent major restorations in the mid-19th century and from 1889 to 2010.
The special feature of this building is the presence of three square towers : a larger tower on the Maas side and two twin towers on the city side.
The large glasswork of the choir consists of three parts with an exceptional height of twenty-two meters .
Li Rondia is the Walloon name given by the inhabitants of Huy to the largest rose window in the radiant Gothic style in Belgium. It is one of the four wonders of Huy.
A Romanesque crypt was discovered under the collegiate church in June 1906 by priest-dean Demaret. It currently houses the 'Treasure of the Cathedral' .
