We walk a hundred meters on "Voetweg 38" along the pond of the IJse club/ Neerijse to see the former hotel. The ponds, two large and several smaller ones, are fed by springs.
The fish pond in Kamstraat was created by the brewing family Bruffaerts in 1933. Originally, this was intended as Neerijse beach (strand). Chalet du Lac opened in 1934 as a hotel restaurant. People could relax on the beach and fish in the pond. There were changing cabins and a diving board for swimmers. During World War II, operations were halted and resumed later. After the liberation, a daughter of Winston Churchill was a regular guest there. In 1958, the year of the expo in Heysel with the Atomium, was a peak year for the hotel. In 1965, the hotel restaurant ceased operations. The building still exists and is now a residence.
