At the end of the 19th century, a major project was undertaken in Bouillon: to connect the station of Poix-Saint-Hubert by a local railway with Sedan and Pussemange , passing by Maissin, Paliseul and Menuchenet, Bouillon and Corbion.
To do this, you must cross the Semois and dig a tunnel under the castle and then follow the road from Corbion in the direction of France. A new bridge must be built for this, because the existing "Pont de Liège" is unusable due to the height difference. So a new bridge is built closer to France and hence the name " Pont de la porte de France ".
