Nick Ervinck - Beaufort 2012
Olnetop by Nick Ervinck has something monstrous about it. In its hybrid form, you can recognize various elements, but the installation primarily refers to splashing waves. The Belgian artist draws inspiration from the natural dynamics of seawater that relentlessly pounds against the breakwaters. With his work, he attempts to capture the sublime violence that lurks behind a serene surface. Based on a macrophotographic image, Olnetop is a meeting between nature and technology. Ervinck calls it a virtual sculpture, completely designed digitally and not carved from stone or cut from wood, yet palpable due to the polyester execution.
