Over the former police tower in the Oudaan stands a protected baroque monument that was rebuilt in 1638 by Peter Hannekart. In the mid-nineteenth century, painter Nicaise De Keyser lived there, until the building became the property of the city in 1881. The city established a kindergarten there and later the Municipal Lower Training School. Even later it became the Musica primary school. In the cafeteria and the gym, some enthusiastic young people decided to start a youth house. Thus, Youth House KV-Kaffee was born.
Since 2004, Kavka has been a youth center where concerts, exhibitions, youth projects, and workshops take center stage. When you step through the white gate, you enter a courtyard with about twenty mini gardens for local residents. It sometimes happens that you see a neighbor gardening here, while members of a punk rock band walk around with their guitars. Sit down on a bench and take a look at the wall full of street art. Kavka Oudaan is open until 10 p.m.; in the evenings, it can be much livelier here.
