Bridge and tunnel railway line 166 - Chaleux

This bridge and tunnel at the Furfooz nature park belongs to railway line 166.

Railway line 166 from Dinant to Bertrix has never been an important railway line because railway line 162 between Namur and Luxembourg was modernized earlier. After the steel crisis at the end of the 20th century, the railway line was in danger of disappearing, but thanks to Europe, the new freight railway line was put into use in 2002, which now, together with railway line 165 between Bertrix and Athus, forms the Athus-Maas line.

There is not much passenger traffic on the line, except in the tourist season between Anseremme and Houyet, when kayakers travel upstream by train and then down the Lesse by kayak.

Fortunately, the bridges here are all equipped with a footpath so that they can be used by walkers to cross the Lesse in this area.
