This gigantic bicycle stands in front of the bicycle shop "Cycles Matagne".
Joseph Matagne, amateur cyclist , is 22 years old in 1907 and opens a bicycle shop in Remouchamps: Cycles Matagne. In 1909 , Joseph won Paris-Roubaix as an amateur and took ninth place in Liège – Bastogne – Liège. Then the Great War and life events prevented him from continuing his cycling career.
In 1947, Joseph and his brother Fernand joined forces and moved to rue Nicolas Lambercy in Aywaille. The brothers diversified their activities: bicycles, mopeds, motorcycles, car and truck tires and even a gas station. The 80s were the years of change, the sale of motorcycles was permanently stopped. In 1983, Philippe, Fernand's grandson, officially joined the business. Road cycling is losing steam, BMX is at its peak and mountain biking is making its big appearance. Philippe is one of the first bicycle shops in the region that believes in the future of mountain biking and offers a complete range in the store.
In the year 2000, as a TREK distributor, the first electric bicycles appeared. In 2021, Cycles Matagne will receive the “Best Dealer Trek” award for the Benelux region.
