The Marie-Thérèse ferry bears the name of an Austrian archduchess.
From 1740 to 1780, she was assigned the current area of Belgium by her father, among other things. It is during this period that the bridge was built. It is not true that Marie-Thérèse saw the bridge or came for a walk there... Legend does say that she had the bridge built after an accident while crossing the river on horseback.
For a long time, this bridge facilitated the passage of the road from Paris to Liège , but especially the crossing of the Haute-Lesse. The bridge is Roman in appearance and consists of four uneven arches of slate rubble with a parapet (a small wall erected to support the bridge) topped by a crescent of cut stone.
