There is plenty to experience to discover the garden and the artist in a playful way.

PERMEKE MUSEUM IN JABBEKE

When you say Permeke, you say Jabbeke and vice versa. The Permeke Museum, the gem of Jabbeke, reopened at the end of March 2024 after three years of extensive renovation work. One more reason to include the museum and the garden as a stopping place in the anniversary edition of the 25^th gourmet belt of the Rotary Club Jabbeke, thanks to Mu.ZEE in Ostend.

Painter and sculptor Constant Permeke (1886-1952) lived and worked on the estate 'De Vier Winden' from 1929 until his death in 1952. The Permeke Museum today contains the family house, the painter's studio, and the sculptor's studio of Constant Permeke, surrounded by an expansive garden. The indoor spaces have been adapted to optimally house and conserve his works. The museum now offers an accessible and in-depth view of the life and work of Permeke, turning a new page in the presentation and appreciation of his work.

The garden has undergone a thorough makeover. During the museum's opening hours, the garden is freely accessible to everyone, even if you do not visit the museum. One can lounge there and enjoy the biodiverse nature, meet others, and picnic together.

Along with the reopening, the very first exhibition (until 03/11/2024) Constant Permeke in Backlight opened. This offers a surprising view of about thirty eye-catching artworks by Constant Permeke, confirming his diversity and groundbreaking character. It invites visitors to approach Permeke's art from new insights. For this exhibition, exceptional loans were granted from private collections and (inter)national museums. It is highly recommended to discover the rich collection of the Permeke Museum, in that place where the spirit of Permeke is still alive.
