At a roundabout in the center of Machelen there is a monument in tribute to cyclist Frans De Mulder (1937-2001).
This memorial was unveiled in 2010, fifty years after De Mulder's victory in the Tour of Spain (4 stage victories). In that year, 1960, De Mulder had also become Belgian road champion . De Mulder was born in Kruishoutem. He belonged to the famous “Green Lion” team of sports director Berten De Kimpe.
The statue is made of aluminum and partly realized by his son Alain De Mulder , who built a successful aluminum company.
At the bottom right there is a plaque with a poem by Roland Jooris, which aptly describes De Mulder's cycling career in a few sentences.
The aligned profiles of people and the mirror above the image refer to Roger Raveel.
