Koningstraatje
During the major merger operation of 1977, Zele was left out. While other municipalities saw their borders shift, we remained the municipality between the Schelde and Durme rivers. However, there was a slight change. In the 1960s, the E3 was built, now E17, which ran through the beautiful Durme landscape. A part of the Koningsbroek south of the highway was transferred from Lokeren to Zele. The Koningsstraatje, where you are now, still bears witness to this. And at the end of 1982, Waasmunster lost the Nonnengoed, where the Visgraat is also located, to our municipality. From now on, the Durme and the E17 clearly form the northern border of Zele.
