Petting zoo Mikerf stands for environmental education, tourism and employment.
1. Environmental education
At the petting zoo you can get acquainted (classes, groups,..) with the farm work (taking care of animals, maintenance of stables, working in the field,...) the animals, the farm products, and you learn to take care of nature and the environment. Schools can go to the farm for experiential and animated visits to the farm, lessons on farm work (feeding animals, mucking out stables, working in the vegetable garden,...) and on the animals, developing themed lessons (from milk to butter + butter making), from grain to bread + baking bread), building nest boxes,... The schools can also visit Mikerf for visits to the bee hall and animated information about the life of bees. Mikerf also organizes farm weeks during the holiday periods. The children (of primary school age) can come and help on the farm during the Easter holidays, during the big holidays and sometimes also on Wednesday afternoons. They are allowed to participate in farm work and also do creative activities, bread baking, sports and games. We always end with a cozy campfire.
2. Tourism
As a visitor you can always visit the farm for stables, meadow, vegetable garden, orchard, playground, petanque court, bee hall, baking oven... to visit.
Mikerf also organizes a sheep shearing festival every year (in May), a harvest festival (in September) and the feast of St Maarten on November 11. From March to October, our bakers provide delicious artisan bread in the wood oven every third Sunday of the month on the farm.
3. Employment
In the employment care centre on the farm, we work with a vulnerable target group around various work attitudes, with the aim of reducing the distance to the labour market. The labor care center offers various activities: maintenance work (field, lawns, orchard, odd jobs, ...), animal care (maintenance of stables, feeding, ...) and product processing (milk processing, preparation of flat cheese, yogurt, butter, jam, wool processing, herb processing)
