The Antonia Van Damme Square is the central village square in our municipality. The square is named after Antonia Van Damme, the founder of the Godshuis. Be sure to take a look at the sculpture 'Connected' by Guy Timmerman. This artwork emphasizes the uniqueness of the rural municipality of Sint-Laureins, known for its polders, creeks, and waterways. The statue depicts the connection between humans and nature, referring to the strong bond between the five districts of Sint-Laureins. The work, 4.35 meters high, consists of bronze legs that culminate in a central, pyramidal shape. Inspiration has been drawn from the silhouettes of surrounding buildings and the ground plan of the town hall. Human figures in the sculpture stand back to back with arms wide open, symbolizing human connectedness. A fountain, symbolizing the canal and creeks in the municipality, has been added to the work. In the evening, the blue lighting transforms the sculpture into a fairytale creation. Around the statue, there are five benches, so feel free to take a break or visit the local eateries!
