Alden Biesen is the name of a land commandery in Rijkhoven (a part of Bilzen) in a 56 ha large domain. It is the largest castle complex between the Loire and the Rhine.
The land commandery Alden Biesen was the headquarters of a bailiwick or province of the Teutonic Order in the land of Meuse and Rhine during the Ancien Régime. This bailiwick counted 12 commanderies (castles in the countryside or residences in the city), each managed by a commander, under the authority of the land commander. One of the estates was located in Diepenbeek.
Now Alden Biesen is a cultural center of the Flemish Community.
